My First Artificial Insemination

So it was finally my turn and as I stood up to follow the nurse I thought I was going to pass out from being so nervous. We entered the room and she told me to undress and put this lovely paper over me. She left the room while I undressed and mind you the whole time I am still holding this tube. So the nurse came back in and she had all of her equipment set up and than asked me to verify the information on the tube before handing it to her. The procedure itself took maybe 10 minutes and was a little painful but nothing more than a pap smear. Then I had to lay there for 15 minutes while my Grandma was waiting for me in the waiting room. The nurse came back in and told me to get dress and to take a pregnancy test in two weeks. The drive home was agonizing the things that were going through my head were probably insane. When I got home I layed down for awhile and thought about the possibilities that could be going on right now. The following 2 weeks were the longest days I can remember. With each day I was hoping to feel different or less scared but the feelings never went away. As day 14 approached I was feeling more anxious and excited and scared.

Starting Ovulation Predictor Kits

So I started ovulation predictor kits and got a positive test. Called the clinic and made my appointment for the next day. The lab said I needed to be there at 8 A.M. well it is a 2 hour drive from where I live so I would need to leave by atleast 6 A.M. I tossed and turned all night long not knowing what to expect so I didn't get much sleep. My family is very supportive of my decision so my Grandma took me for the first insemination. First I had to go to the lab and check in so that's what we did. When we got there I had to show my ID and wait 45 minutes for them to prepare the speciman. So just like at a restaurant they gave me a disk and told me when it went off to come back. So we walked around and stopped at the gift shop at the hospital. With every sound I thought ok here we go but it seemed like it took for ever for that little thing to light up. Finally, it went off so we walked back to the lab and they gave me my speciman they told me to keep it warm and straight up. My Grandma got a kick out of this but it was ok because she made me laugh all the way to the clinic. Then I needed to check in at the clinic. They told us to have a seat so here I am with my tube sitting in these chairs and my 80 year old Grandmother sitting next to me. What a site for the people sitting next to me I am sure even though professional still weird.

My first appointment

When I went to my first appointment after deciding to try artificial insemination i was scared but it was easier than I thought. First I had to see the psychologist to make sure I knew what I was doing. She said that I was competent in making this decision so I moved on to the clinic. The doctor was extremely nice and did a full history and exam. What she told me next blew me away. I could start the first insemination with this cycle. I had not even picked a donor yet! So I went home and strted researching and found the donor I wanted and ordered my speciman. I was even more scared than when I started what would it be like, what would happen, how many do I order, well I started with two. They said the first insemination was not likely to work so I knew I would need atleast two.
